Tuna… The Chicken of the Sea

For the last ten years or so, I turned my nose to chunk light tuna. I was introduced to albacore tuna as an intern and consequently denounced chunk light tuna. The way my bank account is set up… I was inclined to try alternatives to what had become a pricey lunch option. Although I could not bring myself to buy the cans of chunk light tuna that I basically grew up on, I did find a packaged chunk light tuna that I thoroughly enjoyed.

While growing up in St. Louis, going to Steak ‘n Shake was the ultimate treat. The restaurant was reminiscent of a retro diner and served some of the best cooked-to-order steak burgers and handmade milkshakes. After 80 years in business, Steak ‘n Shake now has some 400 locations, (mainly in the Midwest) and continues the tradition of serving some of the country’s best, freshest, and tastiest burgers and shakes. While this is true of the Steak ‘n Shake restaurants, the same cannot be said of the Steak ‘n Shake frozen items carried by grocers. Continue reading

Much Adu about LOVE

Valentine’s Day is one of many commodified holidays grossly advertised for the sole intent of making money…in this case, construct LOVE is the commodity. Clearly, people have no problem financially expressing their “LOVE,” as Valentine’s Day is an 18 billion dollar business. The flowers die, the candy gets eaten up, and the lingerie gets destroyed in a couple minutes, but what happens to the LOVE? Is it sustained? Was it ever there? Like many constructs: an idea or theory containing various conceptual elements, typically considered to be subjective and not based on empirical evidence, love can be difficult to define. Oceano Bistro

As birthdays are a huge deal for me, I pondered long and hard for the perfect place to celebrate the blessing of another year of life. I wanted an intimate setting, great location with orgasmically delicious offerings… Oceano Bistro was the stand out winner. St. Louis’ “premiere” fresh fish bistro, allows foodies the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy what our coastal counterparts partake in all the time…Superb succulent seafood! Because it was a very special occasion, my friends and I celebrated in style ordering several bottles of wine, appetizers, multiple entrees, and desserts. Fresh baked bread accompanied by roasted red pepper pesto/olive oil for dipping was served while we awaited our meal. Continue reading
